Etihad has launched an excellent little promotion running for the month of October. If you transfer miles from one of the following fourteen credit card and hotel programs before 31 October 2017 you will receive a 20% bonus on the number of points converted to Etihad Guest miles:
Smiles by Etisalat
Emirates Islamic Bank
Marriott Reward Points
Le Club AccorHotels Points
Hilton Honors Points
Club Carlson Points
Golden Circle Award Points
World of Hyatt – Passport Points
In my experience, the transfer normally takes around two weeks and as per the terms and conditions the bonus miles will be credited to your account with 15 days of the end of the promotion.
Should I transfer?
There is undoubtedly some good value to be had from the Etihad Guest program, but everyone needs to do their own sum as to whether it is worth transferring the miles. If you are anyway planning to transfer points to Etihad then it obviously makes good sense to transfer during this promotion.
Etihad Guest sweet spots
Compared to other programs Etihad guest is actually not that attractive, but there are certain sweet spots you can take advantage of within the program. A lot of the value can be had from redemption on partner airlines. While there are more sweet spots, I have highlighted below two examples of how to obtain exceptional value from your Etihad Guest miles:
Prague to Seoul in business class for only 25,610 Etihad Guest miles
Czech Airlines does not offer many long-haul routes, but one of them is its service to Seoul, South Korea which flies four days a week and is operated by one of its A330-300 aircraft leased from Korean Air. The aircraft is equipped with fully lie-flat seats in business class.
Abu Dhabi to Seychelles return in business class for only 51,832 Etihad Guest miles
Seychelles is a bucket list item for many of us and if you’re going why not fly there in style? Due to the partnership between Etihad and Air Seychelles you can redeem 51,832 Etihad Guest miles for a round-trip flight in business class between Abu Dhabi and Seychelles.
Once again everyone needs to do their own math and fortunately, there is still time to decide as the promotion ends on 31st October. However, I would make sure to make the transfer a few days before the deadline as you do not want to lose out on the promotion should your program of choice only effect the transfer a few days after the request was made.
